DALLAS, TX May 3, 2017/BusinessWire — Securus Technologies, a leading provider of civil and criminal justice technology solutions for public safety, investigation, corrections and monitoring, has had an associate named the winner of a Bronze American Business Award in the Technical Professional of the Year category in The 15th Annual American Business Awards.
The American Business Awards is the nation’s premier business awards program. All organizations operating in the U.S.A. are eligible to submit nominations – public and private, for-profit and non-profit, large and small.
More than 3,600 nominations from organizations of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted this year for consideration in a wide range of categories, including Startup of the Year, Executive of the Year, Best New Product or Service of the Year, Marketing Campaign of the Year, Live Event of the Year, and Customer Service Department of the Year, among others. Securus’ own Mel Khanthavong was nominated in the Technical Professional of the Year category.
“We received a letter from a County Sheriff’s Office thanking Securus and Mel for going above and beyond in one of their murder investigations. I’ve always known that our products and people were working every day to make America a safer place but people outside our industry really don’t know what we do. Our associates like Mel go above and beyond all the time and it’s great when it’s recognized by the community we serve,” stated Danny de Hoyos, Senior Vice President of Operations at Securus Technologies.
In this case, a Sheriff’s Office in the Midwest contacted Securus Technical Support for assistance in finding a person wanted for questioning in a murder investigation. They had secured a warrant and with the help of Securus’ Location Based Services (LBS) they traced location of the person of interest. Local law enforcement searched but just couldn’t find the individual. With Mel’s help, they were able to use LBS to narrow the search to within 42 feet and ultimately located the subject. Without Mel’s help, the murder investigation would have taken longer slowing justice. This is just one great example of what Mel does every day that makes him and Securus deserving of this award.
“Each year the judges find the quality and variety of the nominations to be greater than the year before. The 2017 competition was intense and every organization that has won should be proud,” said Michael Gallagher, president and founder of the American Business Awards.
