Securus Aligns with Law Enforcement and Corrections to Fight Sex Trafficking

Securus is putting its intelligence tools to work to help identify crimes and protect victims of this epidemic

DALLAS, TX June 6, 2017/BusinessWire/ — Securus Technologies, a leading provider of civil and criminal justice technology solutions for public safety, investigation, corrections and monitoring, has joined the fight against human sex trafficking by targeting its intelligence tools and applications with the law enforcement community. “Sex trafficking is a heinous crime. Our intelligence tools are being used much more frequently and aggressively to aid investigators to help solve and prevent more of these abuses,” said Richard A. “Rick” Smith, CEO of Securus Technologies. “We are dedicating our sophisticated technology to uncover instances where human sex trafficking occurs and the people behind it.” According to research, more than 3,500 sex trafficking cases were reported to the National Human Trafficking Center in 2016. Globally, it constitutes a $32B industry. Human Sex Trafficking is considered modern day slavery. The U.S. Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act defines sex trafficking as the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision or obtaining of an individual who under force, fraud or coercion is induced to perform a commercial sex act. “This is a prevailing issue across many cities, large and small, making it a significant public safety issue,” said Smith. “Securus’ services are being utilized in 80% of the largest cities where sex trafficking is most prolific. We are joining this fight with law enforcement (Federal, State and Local agencies) to assist and our technology is the cornerstone of this effort,” said Smith.
